Greetings church family and friends, welcome to the first edition of the church blog! This is a place for updates and to think about the past week and the things learnt and what has happened, what went well and what could better.
Introducing myself, my name is Ayomide, a member of this church family, where everybody is somebody- since my teens, a trainee Sunday school teacher and lover of Christ.
I am sure from the title of this blog, you can see the gleanings I took from the message last week by Pastor Alabi which was on power, which he described with the biblical word ‘Dunamis’ this word stuck out to me. Look at the world we live in today, if you have power, what can stand in your way? Not much other than someone with a bit more power than you, right? In some societies, whether it is fair or not, power can win an election without all the votes needed, it can change political outcomes, it can push societal agenda’s through protests of people on the streets.
Now, look at power through the lens of a child of God, someone who follows the ways and word of the Lord daily. Imagine being given a talent, a skill or a gift, having all that is needed to excel in a particular field of work or ministry but seemingly failing or falling short each time, missing the mark just a little each time. This is something God has revealed to you in prayers and messages that you are meant to be great in, so why are you stuck? Sometimes you have all these things laid out in front of you and it is not because you don’t have the requisite power but because you have not tapped into it, you are trying to achieve things that need a force and power behind them, without the effort needed. You are not applying your power that has been bestowed onto you to use, you are treading lightly when you should be stomping forward with all your might. The power is what separates you from the ordinary, the power is what pushes you to fulfil the destiny you have. 1 Corinthians 4 vs 20 talks about this, that the Kingdom of God is not in words but in power. You have to put your foot behind what you know on paper otherwise it will just stay on the paper. So imagine this, if those of the world with perceived power can do what they do, change what they change; what more we that are followers of Christ, children of God would be able to achieve if we use the power from the source itself, the Creator of heaven and earth, He who makes a way where there is no way, He has given you power, use it and don’t waste it, apply the faith you have, add it with the power directly from God and see whether you will still be stuck. 1 Corinthians 2 vs 4-5. Tap into your ‘Dunamis’ power and remember this is different for us all, no two people will have the same assignment to be executed using the power of God. The word ‘Dunamis’ power is used in the New Testament about 120 times, which goes to show how important it is for you and I to understand how important power is and making sure you tap into the power you have, which is more than just ordinary power that the eye can see.
Please read these verses alongside those above, 2 Corinthians 12 vs 9, Acts 10 vs 38, Luke 4 vs 1-3 & 13-14. Read them in different versions especially The Message and Amplified Classic so you can really understand them.
I hope you have been blessed and enjoyed what you have read and feel free to share any thoughts you have on this or the message last Sunday.
In terms of announcements, next week we have our Youth weekend from Friday 29th to Sunday 31st, we have our church annual conference coming up in October also. Let us pray for the youth and the church ahead of these special periods. We also have a wedding in the house! Our dear brother and son Ayokunmi will be marrying Juanita on the 28th August. Please continue to pray for them both on this journey of life they are embarking on.
